Some Note Worthy and Not So Note Worthy Updates

Here are some note worthy and not so worthy things that have been happening in Cummings land since the the start of 2013.

1. Mae dresses herself. This deserves an exclamation point but since Mae is over three I don't think that it necessarily warrants one because this is probably something she should have been doing for some time. Regardless, it is pretty big for me and I am always fascinated when I watch her putting on her underwear, pants, shirt, and shoes on her own. That is not to say that she doesn't require some assistance some times but I finally have one kid that is becoming self sufficient.

2. Whitaker got all his molars. All at once to boot. This has created a lot of crankiness in our house this week but the upside we got it all done at once. That is not to say he doesn't have a lot more teeth to get but at least the molars are out of the way.

3. Pearson is out of town this whole week. Surprisingly it has been ok. There have been some stressful moments and some moments of loneliness at night but all in all it has been fine. The thing that stresses me out the most is trying to deal with the two kids and the dog. I swear I don't know how single mom's do it. I would never have an animal as a single mom.

4. Whitaker had his 18 months appointment today. The appointment confirmed what we knew, he is is a short, stocky dude with a really large head. His stats are as followed: Height 32.5 (37.40%) and Weight 27 lb, 3.2 oz.

5. Mae is finally sleeping through the night in her own bed. We have had some really shitty sleeping in our house for the last 6 months or longer. In fact, I feel that I haven't gotten a decent night sleep since having Whitaker. I started to write a post about it a couple of months ago but I think I have been so frustrated, annoyed, and tired about it all that I just gave up. Pretty much for the better part of the last six months or so, Mae has been coming to bed in our room with us during various times throughout the night. Some times we would take her back to her bed which just brought her screaming and protesting. It was not uncommon that we did this multiple times in a night. Some times I didn't even know she would come to bed with us and didn't realize it until 5 am. Some times I knew she came to bed and I didn't care to move her. Secretly I loved her sweet, small, and tender body laying next to mine but in the long run it wasn't ideal - no one was getting good sleep. Add this to the fact that Whitaker wakes up in the 5 o'clock hour. We have just been up off and on throughout the night. I partly blame us. Ok, I blame us all the way. I believe it all started becasue Whitaker would wake up at 5 am and would end up waking Mae up. In order to get her back to bed we would bring her to bed with us to sleep for a few hours in the morning. She became accustom to sleeping with us in what she dubbed "the warm bed" and just kept coming in earlier and earlier. Anywho, I think we might have overcome one sleep hurdle (still can't figure out how not to get Whitaker to wake up in the 5 o'clock hour). In fact (I don't want to jinx us) but we have gotten almost a solid week of Mae sleeping the ENTIRE night in her own bed.

6. I sing like Ursula [the sea witch in Little Mermaid]. This is in followup to the post where I don't sing like a princess. The other day Mae told me again about my ability to sing, she said, "Mom, you sing like Ursula."

7. Whitaker likes reading and will sit for quite awhile to hear stories. Since Whitaker generally wakes up first and it is way to early we normally now come downstairs and cuddle on the couch and read and read and read.

8. I think that is all I got for now. I am sure I am missing a bunch but I will report back soon.
