Whitaker Wednesday

I can't believe that I haven't written about this previously in any post on the blog YET since there is  one phrase Whitaker utters probably the most often. He says it when he is upset or when he doesn't get his way or when I tell him he can't do something or when I tell him NO he can't eat XYZ for breakfast. lunch or dinner. And since I say those things pretty often, he says this right back to me multiple times a day. He also doesn't limit it to just me but to Pearson, Mae, and other loved ones. You might think it is something so horrible that I refuse to write it and at first my feelings maybe were just a little hurt but since he says it all the time, it is hard to not chuckle about it all. So you might be wondering what it is. Wait no longer, he says, "You are not invited to my birfday party."

Let me just give two scenarios that happened today when I was not invited to his birthday party. The first we were headed to Target. While driving there I told Whitaker we had to run in super duper fast and grab sprinkles for cookies that I made for Mae's class to decorate. He wanted me to buy him Toothless [the dragon from How to Tame Your Dragon]. I told him that we wouldn't  be buying that for him today but he could put it on his Christmas list. To which he immediately replied, "You aren't invited to my birfday party."

The second scenario happened when Whitaker wanted me to watch him poop, which I did. What can I say but the kid likes an audience. Afterwards I walked away for a few seconds to tend to something else where Whitaker then flushed the toilet. He screamed from the bathroom to me, "You didn't see my really long poop." I said, "I did see it because I was standing here while you pooped." He then responded on cue, "You aren't invited to my birfday party."

Everyday I get uninvited and then sometimes re-invited to his birthday party. This is an ongoing joke between Pearson and I since it is too hilarious to not laugh about. This has been happening now for about a few months and I almost hope it never ends since I am certain the next thing will not be as cute.

Mae Monday

A few weeks ago, Mae was working on a coloring book that was given to her at the firehouse. One page [above] made you circle the picture on a line that was fire hazard. I was looking over her shoulder and asking her questions of which one was a fire hazard and the first and third lines were no brainers. The second line she was able to circle because of the steam but when I asked her what the object was that she circled she said, "A waffle maker!" Huh?!?! I immediately said, "That is an iron that you use to straighten clothes." I think she was still perplexed since we actually do NOT own an iron. My grandmothers, one who ironed jeans and underwear would be seriously disappointed. On the upside there is no chance of a fire in our house because of ironed clothes.  And that is fire safety 101 for you folks - eliminate the chance of it happening. Now I just need to figure out how to not use a pot.

Mae Monday

This morning was a doozy of trying to aid Mae in getting dress. Some days she comes out of her room for the day completely dressed, some days she goes upstairs after breakfast and does it herself, and some days she and I will go upstairs and I will help/guide her in what to wear. Today, she asked me to help her so I did. It took us 45 minutes to find something that she wanted to wear that was weather appropriate. Mae insists on wearing her summer clothes still but since it was below 50 degrees this morning I didn't think that was that smart of a decision.  We finally decided on something and I told her to go look in the mirror to see if she was happy - definitely a mistake on my part.

She stood there look at herself and then cried and said, "I look like a big fat president!!"

What?!?

I don't know where she even got that one. I will tell you this was also a teaching lesson for us. I told Mae that she needs to decide on something to not fret about her clothes. I hope that she doesn't get too wrapped up in what to wear at such a young age. I want her to express her individuality but want her to also be carefree!

Hiking

Today with the temperatures dipping in the 50's and the fall foliage we decided to hit the great outdoors - not that we don't spend most of our time outdoors alreadys. Pearson originally wanted to head to Skyline Drive to check out the changing leaves but since the kids spent the night at my parents house - meaning we got a late start to the day - and sunday family supper at 4 pm, we didn't have the time to tackle the trip. Instead we settled for a little "hike' in Great Falls. It was great and it was great to be out just the 4 of us for a couple of hours.

You will notice by the photos I was really trying to capture the two kids together. Pearson asked that his birthday gift  be a photo of the two kids for his office. After going through countless past photos the other day I realized I don't have a decent one of the two of them together since our last Christmas card. And after looking at the photos you will realize I still have yet to have a good one of them - ok maybe one of them is acceptable. They are such goofballs.

Apple Picking

Pearson is out of town on a guy's golfing trip that also includes my two brother in laws. So with all the guys gone my sisters and I have hung out a lot this week. Today we headed out for some apple picking  with all the kids and included Baby Jolene. I took more pictures of her then my own kids. Not because I don't think my kids are adorable but we have been to this farm a fair amount and I have loads of pictures of them there.

One minor mishap today. I put both the kids in their rain boots since it rained all day yesterday and I thought the fields might be muddy. Whitaker's one boot fell off in the driveway while getting in the car - something I was unaware of till we got there. Thankfully there was one random shoe in the car. Hence he walked around the fields in two left shoes - one boot and one Native.

Mae wanted her picture in all the characters. Here she is a witch.
And a scarecrow.

Now a pumpkin.

Mae picked all of our apples. And now I have a TON.

All the fresh air made someone sleepy.
