Trying to figure out...

How my grandparents raised families without dishwashers?  I ran our dishwasher right before bed on Sunday night and woke up to a dishwasher  STILL full of dirty dishes (This is, of course, the week Pearson is out of town in London). The repair man can't get it here till Friday so I have been hand washing dishes for the last two days. After every meal that I make and then have to clean up, all I can think is HOW in the hell did my grandmothers do this? (My one grandmother had 5 kids, the other had 3 and ran a bar). They must have spent the better part of every day washing, drying, and putting away dishes. Every time I think that parenting is hard, I need to remember how hard parenting must have been without a dishwasher (or washing machine, microwave, etc..). I don't know if I could have hacked it.
