You are 10 months old today. I can't believe we are almost at one year. I wish time could stop just for a little bit so that we can stay here for a little bit longer. If I had a couple words to describe you, I would say curious, active, passionate, and hungry.
We have been pretty much away from home for the whole month of June. You were entertained with all the new people, sights, and activities of travel. And thankfully, we were able to escape June in Seattle, which is the pits.
You have finessed your ability to crawl, pull yourself up, and stand without holding on to anything (but only for a couple seconds). Your ability to move has increased your curiousity for everything, which also brings some chaos and destruction to the house. You love opening drawers and pulling out what is inside, taking things out of baskets, seeing what is in the closet, or throwing all the books off a shelf. With all your movement, I have lost the ability to sit down for more than two seconds. If I am not paying attention, you can take off or get into trouble. For example, the other day I was emptying the dishwasher. I was putting something away and turned my back for a couple of seconds. When I turned back around, you were IN the dishwasher. You don't keep it dull anymore that is for sure.
You especially love crawling over and playing with the stereo (something we probably shouldn't let you do) but you can turn on the music and turn up or down the volume. You are so proud of yourself when you turn it on and you look at me with this HUGE smile. Then, like your father, you will crank the music so loud that I have to ask you to turn it down.
I don't know how else to say it but you are a passionate child. Your father is concerned this is his genetic temper coming out, I instead refer to it as your passion for life, which I know will manifest itself in greatness. I worry too that it will create some tete a tete battles between the two of us in your teen years (but let's worry about that down the road). For that matter, little baby girls don't have tempers, they have passion. You definitely know what you want. Your passion has also taken a form of screaming. Admittedly I found it a little funny at first. Now not so much. We are hoping by ignoring your screaming we will be able to eliminate it without totally squashing your voice. On the subject of your voice, you love to talk and people are blown away by what you have to "say." You definitely use the word 'dog.' Although it comes out much more like 'daw.' You can say mama and dad is "da."
I thought you were going to be a Roman empress and have people feed you grapes for the rest of your life since for the last four months you have refused to feed yourself. I think by watching your Cousin Will feed himself for 10 days, you realized that you too wanted to do it. Your favorite food is beans and you love popping them in your mouth. Unfortunately, feeding yourself hasn't stopped with food. Your palette isn't discerning. If it is on the floor and you can put it in your mouth, you will eat it, this includes dirt, dog food, and paper.
This month we retired your "office" aka the exosaucer. We used to put you in the play thing and say you are going to your office to work. One day, prior to our vaction, your dad said, "I think she wants to work from home from now on." So true. We would put you in it and you would just cry and cry. When you can move why be stationary. The exosaucer has found a new home to one of your friends.
Since time and you won't and can't stand still we are plowing ahead into ten months. Can't wait for many kisses and high fives (two things that we have taught you to do) from you this month.
Love you always, Mom
