Whitaker Wednesday

Today Whitaker had his four year checkup. We decided to scoot there from my parent's house while my mom watched Mae for me. Whitaker was doing this trick on his scooter where he was jumping.

Me: Where did you learn that?
Whitaker: I learned it in my brain.

His doctor's appointment went great. He is built like his dad. He is in the 18 percentile for height and the 85 percentile for weight (yes you read that correct). The doctor isn't concerned about his height to weight ratio. He is healthy and happy and that is all that matter.

On another note. Today Mae attempted and passed the deep end swim test at my parent's/childhood pool. It requires swimming 25 meters and then treading water for 1 minute. You can hold onto the wall after the swim part but you can't take a long break. Mae passed very easily and I was so proud. (She attempted it at the end of last summer and she did finish the length of the pool part). After Mae did it, Whitaker insisted on trying. Honestly, I didn't really think he was going to get past the swim part. But he proved me wrong. He made it! Then he treaded water for 50 seconds! To say I was blown away and proud was an understatement. (I must note - not to be egotistical - but I was a very good swimmer when I was young. As I got older I became mediocre but still decent so I have a little bit of swimmer mom pride. I don't expect them to ever compete, unless they want to, but wanted them to know this survival skill).

Happy Birthday Dad/Grandpa

Today is my Father's 73rd birthday!! We were so lucky to wish him one in person this morning at the beach before he and my mom scooted out of town but we are even more lucky to have him in our lives. I couldn't ask for a better father/grandfather. Dad, wishing you all the best in this year.

On an unrelated note, here are some photos from our time at the beach so far.

So windy the first day at the beach.

Water balloons.

Trying to make a fire.

Summertime!

With both kids out of school, the kids and I loaded up the car and came to Oak Island yesterday. After  unloading the car, Mae insisted we go to the beach, which I happily obliged. And man was it worth it.

(Pearson was originally supposed to join us this weekend but work has gotten in the way of that so we are happily enjoying spending a few days with Grandma and Grandpa K. here, then a few days solo, and then friends are joining us).

Slam Ball

Whitaker's last game of Slam Ball aka Tball was yesterday. This was his first attempt at baseball and he really enjoyed it. This was also Pearson's first attempt at coaching and he seemed to be ok with it.

Photos from Whitaker's last game.

Strawberry Picking

Today, I took my kids and John strawberry picking. John won the award for most strawberries eaten (without putting a single strawberry in a basket). Whitaker won the award for most strawberries picked (besides myself). Mae won the award for most helpful since she carried one of the containers of strawberries out of the field for me without nary a complaint or dropping any. Great way to spend a Friday. Even better a babysitter is coming at 6 pm so Pearson and I can go to the Nationals vs. Cubs game.

Best picker!

Best eater as you can see from his face.
My loves.
